Free Things in life......

......are sweet, just like (the only slightly polluted) Budapest air. In this section we have included some stuff that is either really cheap, or comes with something that you have already paid for, or is tip-based or really IS for free.

Illegal Parties

Illegal parties are great. You only need to find out about them. But don't worry, we have our contacts, so you will know. There are DJs....and weird locations like an underground tram stop after the the trams stopped running, or the top of Gellert Hill, and then there are cool people. That's it. No organized bar, so do bring your own booze.

Zold Pardon

The city explodes outdoor in Budapest....as with the outdoor baths, this what it's all about. 'The Longest Open air Summer Festival' is raucously nested between the highways. Day & night large menu of salads & BBQ, full bar beer-garden to beat it all. Pretty big acts, gigs daily at 8pm, later 2 dance floors, BIG SCENE, DJ's kicking sounds. Plenty of options of hangin' or jumpin' around from morning till dawn. The sky's the limit.... It's party time!!!! Entry 400HUF (€1.3): you'll need 2x200 HUF coins or 4x100HUF coins, only in this combination. You put them in the gate and the gate gives you a beer voucher. So basically free entry.

Goldmann Gyorgy ter

9am - 6am, every day

Tram 4 or 6, or night bus 906 to 'Petofi hid budai hidfo', you get off just after the bridge

Kerepesi Cemetary

A place of silence, sun and shadows in the middle of the city buzz. Impressive mausoleums and amazing sculptures under the 300+ year old trees. The most famous Hungarians are here: aristocrats, historical figures, politicians, actors, poets... and many artists - live ones too, as they often come to this stunningly beautiful place for inspiration. Ghost spotting is fun. Free entry.

Free Walking Tours

The 'BudapestBackpacker' team offers guided tours in Budapest and around the country in 25 languages (and they are only 6 people!! wow.) They also run the 'Free Art & Photo', and 'Free Budapest Basic Tour'. Free, however, means it is tip-based, so you decide at the end how much you would like to pay. If you are not yet familiar with HUF (Hungarian Forints) and its value, please convert it, so you know what you are giving. Surely, the dude, who gave 60 HUF (€0.20!!!) after a 3 hour tour, had no idea. This is, of course, only if you liked the walk. If you hated every moment of it, you should not pay. :)

'Opera'

daily: 11am @ Opera, 2pm @ Vorosmarty ter

yellow metro to 'Opera' or 'Vorosmarty ter'. no need to book, just show up.
