At U4 station Kettenbrückengasse, the Naschmarkt (popularly also called "Aschenmarkt", from "Asch"=milking bucket), a Viennese fruit & vegetable market opened in 1780 on the area above the Donau canal, which now flows underground. Loads of Falafel stands provide a cheap lunch. Since 1977 a flea market (every Sat) has sprung up west of the. U-bahn Naschmarkt (where u & the city's bums may enjoy a bottle or two). |
